Who Will Walk Meghan Markle Down the Aisle ?

by Happynaija

On May 4, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Meghan Markle’s dad, Thomas, will be walking her down the aisle. Ten days later – and just five days before the wedding of the year – that all changed.

After a rumored heart attack and confirmation that Thomas, with the help of Meghan’s half-sister Samantha Markle, staged paparazzi photos of him preparing for the wedding, Thomas said that he will no longer be attending. “This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding. She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation,” the palace said in a statement.

So as the the official countdown to May 19 begins, everyone is now wondering: Who may walk Meghan Markle down the aisle?

1. Her Mom, Doria Ragland

Being the most obvious choice, Markle has a very strong relationship with her mom. “We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I’ll still find so much solace in her support,” Markle has said. “That duality coexists the same way it would in a best friend.”

Ragland has already touched down in London and is expected to be by Markle’s side and ride in the car with her to St. George’s Chapel on May 19.

Ragland also has Prince Harry’s vote. In his engagement interview with Markle, he called Ragland “amazing.”

2. Herself

While walking without anyone by her side may be a royal first, it is also a sign of Markle’s strength. A self-proclaimed feminist, walking solo would be a true sign of her independence.

3. Her Future Father-in-Law, Prince Charles

Again, while this is also untraditional, it’s a great symbol of the two families uniting. Prince Charles and his wife, Camila Parker Bowles, do not have an official role in the wedding, but they are paying for the evening reception at Frogmore House.

4. Her Future Brother-in-Law, Prince William

If best man Prince William was to walk Markle down the aisle, it would not be the first time a brother-in-law would escort a royal bride. When Princess Margaretmarried Anthony Armstrong-Jones in 1960, because her father, King George, was deceased, her brother-in-law, Prince Philip, stepped in.

5. Her Future Grandfather-in-Law, Prince Philip

Speaking of Prince Philip, he is also a contender. However, despite recent health battles and a hip replacement in April 2018, it is unlikely he will be able to make the long walk down the aisle. Additionally, the palace has yet to confirm that he will be attending the wedding.
