Shakhtar’s and Brazil’s midfielder Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos popularly known as (Fred) has been a long-term target for Manchester United and now the player himself confirms the rumours:
“There have been some advanced talks since January,
when I almost went to Man City,”
Fred said at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro,
as quoted by the Manchester evening news.
“Soon after City, United talked to Shakhtar and my agents.
And today, if I’m not mistaken, there is very strong interest from United.”
However, Fred refuses to overreact to a potential move for now,
as he eyes his first World Cup with the Brazilian national team:
“My head is in the World Cup.My agents are taking care of it.
I try to do my work in the field and leave the extra field for Gilberto Silva.
My staff are looking at what is best for me.
Who knows after the World Cup I can make the best choice for me.”
Fred, who has a €60 million release clause in his contract,
wants to leave Ukraine in order to play for a top European club.
His transfer fee will not a stumbling block for United,
according to an earlier report in Manchester Evening News.
The Red Devils are in need of midfield reinforcements and are willing to break the back for the Brazilian.
Fred will travel to Russia with Brazil this summer where his future is
expected to be resolved after the World Cup ends.
