The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said Senator Aliyu Wamakko of the APC winner of the North Sokoto Senate district election on February 23.
The returning officer in the election, Professor Atiku Yahaya, Deputy Vice Chancellor’s Academy, Usmanu Danfodiyo University of Sokoto, announced Monday the result at the District Senators Ranking Center in the Sokoto LGA. North, reports the NAN.
Yahaya said that Wamakko had interviewed 17,283 against 15,401 scored by Ahmed Maccido of the PDP in Kware LGA, 31,695 against 23,739 in Sokoto North LGA and 35,653 against 19,662 in Wamakko LGA during the election
In Silame LGA, the PCA candidate won 10,689 votes, compared with 14,394 for Maccido; Sokoto South LGA Wamakko received 39,979 votes and Maccido 28,288 votes.
Wamakko also scored 10,912 votes in the Gudu LGA, Maccido got 13,798 votes; APC obtained 16,370 against PDP 12.505 in the Tangaza LGA while in LGA Binji, Wamakko got 10,399 votes and Maccido got 11,195 votes.
Yahaya also said that the total number of registered voters in the eight LGAs was 709,004, compared with 349,972 for the accredited voters in the election
He added that the total number of votes cast was 317,696.
He said that Wamakko, who had a total of 172,980 votes, was reelected, beating Maccido who won 138,922 votes.
Similarly, Hassan Abubakar, an outgoing member of the House of Representatives, representing the federal constituency of Sokoto North / South Sokoto, has retained his seat in the APC.
Professor Aminu Muhammad, Returning Officer, announced the result. He won 31,475 votes against Abubakar Abdullahi, of the PDP, who obtained 23,617 votes in the LGA of Sokoto Nord and 40,011 votes in the 28,531 votes of the LGA of Sokoto South.
Muhammad stated that the total number of registered voters in the constituency was 310,646.
He said that the APC candidate, who had collected a total of 71,486 votes, had been returned to defeat his nearest rival of the PDP, who had obtained 52,148 votes during the match.
