Twelve people have been killed as some unknown assailants attacked Kpanche, a community in Bassa Local Government area of Kogi State on Sunday.
The yet to be identified miscreants entered Kpanche town
this morning (Sunday) shooting sporadically.
They set houses on fire and raided the entire town.
The unfortunate incident according to sources may not be unconnected with the December 2016
crisis between Igburra Mozum people and Bassa Kwomus when
the former attacked the masquerade of the later.
The incident led to the displacement of Igburra people.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer,
ASP William Aya said five people lost their lives in the attack.
According to Aya, “When the police were informed about the attack,
they swung into action alongside the Nigeria Army.
“The attackers when sighting the police and army they opened fire at the security forces
but were repelled back and six of the attackers were killed.
“Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored in the area.
The security agencies are determined to ensure adequate
security of lives and properties in the State”.
